The Asthma InfoLine Referral Service is a simple way that health professionals can refer their patients to gain further support and advice about their asthma.
Asthma Foundation NSW aims to support, not replace GPs and can help them improve adherence and compliance in their patients. The Asthma InfoLine encourages patients to visit their GP and speak to them if they have any concerns and have their asthma regularly reviewed.
Asthma is a very individual and complex condition and it’s difficult for a GP to communicate all the relevant information in an average 15 minute consultation.
GPs estimate that roughly one-third of the information they give patients is remembered – particularly when they are newly diagnosed. Asthma InfoLine staff are able to spend time speaking with the patient to try to understand their particular issues, provide tailored advice and support their GP’s messages. Asthma InfoLine staff are trained health professionals who are very experienced in asthma management.
GPs and Practice Nurses can refer patients through Medical Director via a pop-up prompt with preventer medications. Best Practice and Zedmed have a pre-populated referral form that can be emailed or faxed. Once referred, the patient is contacted within two working days by Asthma InfoLine staff.
