    • Healthy Communities in the Macleay Valley

      Healthy Communities in the Macleay Valley is funded by the Department of Health and Ageing, and aims to assist people to improve their health and quality of life through free exercise programs, healthy eating workshops and the installation of outdoor exercise equipment.

      The project is aimed at supporting people to improve their health and well-being and then provides the necessary environment for that to occur. Programs and activities are offered across the Shire with programs concluding in May 2014.

      A list of programs scheduled for 2014 are available on the Kempsey Shire Council website or contact Healthy Communities on 65663200 for more information.

      Application for programs is made through Expressions of Interest in the following ways;

      * by completing the Expression of Interest in the Happynings
      * by phoning and requesting an Expression of Interest form

    • Northern Rivers Counselling Service

      ACON Northern Rivers offers a short to medium term sensitive and relevant community counselling service available face to face and by telephone. The counselling is tailored for people living with HIV and members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities. This service operates Tuesdays and Wednesdays and some after-hours appointments are available. Cost is a tax deductible donation to ACON starting from $5 according to income.     • Northern Rivers Prostate Cancer Support Group

      The Northern Rivers Prostate Cancer Support Group are one of 130 groups across Australia providing support and education for sufferers, partners, and family of prostate cancer. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month 7-9 pm at the Lismore Workers Club, and the third Monday of each month at 10 am at the Alstonville Bowling Club.     • Women’s Quit Smoking Group

      Women’s Quit Smoking Group is a free six week group offering tools, skills and support to give quitting a go.

      You will have support from a Health Promotion worker provided to help you on your journey to quit smoking. The program also provides free nicotine replacement therapy, in a relaxed and encouraging group environment without judgement or pressure.

      The group will run every Wednesday, starting 14 August to 18 September 2013
